Nearly a year after planting our rain garden in October 2024, Mrs. Alumbres’ current 5th-grade class returned to check up on the thriving space they’ve inherited. These student scientists rolled up their sleeves to ensure everything is functioning as intended!
• Checked the water flow from the parking lot into the garden
• Pulled invasive weeds
• Installed a rain gauge to begin monitoring precipitation
This hands-on learning opportunity helps students understand the importance of native plants, water quality, and environmental responsibility, right in front of their school. We’re so proud of their curiosity and commitment to caring for this space!
A huge thank-you again to Elizabeth with the Skagit Marine Resources Committee and our La Conner Elementary staff for supporting this living classroom.
