March 2021, Principal Ms. Fakkema Update

Dear LC Elementary families,

You’ve probably heard lots of talk about the uptick in COVID cases in our community that has had an impact on the school. You might have already read a notice from Andy Wheeler in our district office, which explains the processes and procedures we’re following district-wide to ensure the safety of our school community (if you haven’t gotten that yet, you will… keep an eye out; it’s very informative).

I just wanted to send additional assurance that we are taking our responsibilities to protect the health of our kids very seriously. Teachers are ensuring that students are wearing masks, hand washing/sanitizing regularly, and keeping their distance, which research shows has been highly effective in minimizing exposure. If your child has any close contact at school with a student who tests positive for COVID, we will contact you immediately (see Andy’s letter for the health department’s definition of “close contact”).

We appreciate your partnering with us to keep our school community safe. Please remember to keep your child home if they show any COVID symptoms. And if your child is absent for any reason, whether they’re a remote or in-person student, please call the office @ 360-466-3172, or email, with that information.

Take care,

Heather Fakkema-Hovde, MEd

Principal of La Conner Elementary School
