Principal Mrs. Herrera Explains What to Expect With Remote Learning on Monday, March 1

What to expect with remote learning beginning March 1

February 23, 2021

Dear La Conner Middle School Families,

As we shift from remote learning to some students returning to school in-person and others remaining remote, I wanted to share with you the anticipated schedule and resources to help support your child during remote learning.

Remote students will continue to find all of their assignments in Canvas, and will work independently from home Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. On these days, students are encouraged to email their teachers anytime they need assistance or support. There are opportunities for remote students to connect for additional support from teachers on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 12:30 - 3:00. During these Zooms, students can check in with middle school teachers to get additional help and support, or just to connect and say hello. The Zoom links for help and support throughout the week can be found on all Canvas pages.

There is an opportunity for remote students to connect with their teachers and Advisory classes on Wednesdays from 8:30 am - 9:00 am.  Students can join their classroom teachers in Zoom by appointment on Wednesdays. Here are some of the things they could use the time on Wednesdays with their teachers:

  • Check-in
  • get assistance
  • ask questions
  • discuss upcoming events and assignments

To set up appointments, students will need to email their teachers directly to set up a time that works for both. Also, teachers may reach out to invite students to Wednesday Zooms as well.

Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri

Wednesday

Zoom Assistance

12:30 pm - 3:00 pm

Advisory Check-In

8:30 am - 9:00 am

Students needing assistance from teachers need to email them and set a time that works.

There was a survey sent to your child on Monday, to find out what elective they would like to be enrolled in the rest of the school year. Please have your child fill out the form before Thursday, February  25th. The elective class choices are: art, band, leadership, and construction. They will Zoom twice a week with their teacher. The classes will meet on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:10 - 11:00.  The Zoom link will be posted in the Canvas for each class. PE, another elective, will be independent, and will not include zooms, but will continue to post workouts and assignments through Canvas.

I encourage all students to take advantage of the online opportunities for connecting with their teachers and classmates. And, when possible, continue to connect with clubs and groups.  If you are interested in finding out more, please contact Christine Valdez at cvaldez@lc.k12.wa.us or Lori Buher at lbuher@lc.k12.wa.us

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at kherrera@lc.k12.wa.us, or call the office at 360.466.3173.

Sincerely,
