La Conner School District was proud to honor and thank our retirees, volunteers, and departing staff during a special recognition open-house celebration held on Tuesday afternoon in the middle school gym. We’re immensely grateful for all the contributions made during their time here. Mrs. Shegay Vanderpool (28 years of service) and Ms. Kelly Silva (21 years of service) will retire at the end of this school year. On behalf of the La Conner School District, we would like to wish our retirees the very best in their next steps in life.

We also recognized the following staff members for their valuable contributions and dedication to our district; Assistant Principal/Athletic Director Mikki Gifford, Social Worker Tammie White, math teacher Donna Morris, teacher Maura Jurenka, ASL teacher Michelle Slater, art teacher Jackie Nickel, ASL teacher Hope Star, drama instructor Alicia Pedroza, and Connie Anderson in food service. The district is grateful to have worked with such a wonderful group of people and wishes them all the success they deserve in whatever adventure awaits them. We will miss them greatly!

Our outstanding volunteers assist with tutoring, chaperoning, monitoring, speaking, reading, and similar activities. We value the expertise they share in our schools, volunteering their time and talent, and generously supporting various projects. In addition, to thanking our eighty-five enthusiastic volunteers, we wanted to give a big shout-out to the following exceptional Volunteer of the Year recipients; Elementary - Marty Pease; Secondary - Kevin Carlton; Coach of the Year – Joel Hingston; Community Service - Terry Cunningham; and Athletics - Charlie Edwards and Lynette Cram. Volunteers are valued partners in the education of La Conner School District. There is no way our schools would be able to do half of the special activities and field trips without these amazing helpers!
