Dear BRAVE parents,
Now that summer is here...
In my email last week, I said I was going to be sending out a survey that asks about your experience during our COVID shutdown. That survey is linked below. Please take a few minutes to fill it out. The information you share will help us plan for the 2020-21 school year.
Within the next few days, your children’s report cards will be mailed. You will notice that traditional grades were not issued in the third trimester (T3). Due to the shutdown, teachers were unable to accurately assess learning. Teachers either moved grades over from the second trimester, or they left the T3 grades empty. In order to record feedback during this time, teachers have written detailed comments that will provide you with ideas to support their ongoing learning over the summer.
Along this line, please read with your children this summer. Get them talking about their reading by asking “who, what, where, why, how” questions. Consider signing up for the local library’s summer reading program! Here’s a link to the La Conner Library’s Children’s Programs page:
Also, time spent practicing math facts – addition and subtraction for students leaving grades K-2, and multiplication and division for students leaving grades 3-5 – will give them a strong foundation for math moving forward. If you spend even just a little time this summer practicing these two things – reading and math facts – you will be helping to close the gaps that have been created by the COVID shutdown. Your children will thank you in the future!
We still have a lot of planning to do to get ready for the 2020-21 school year, and we want to keep you informed as we go! Please contact the district office (360-466-3171 or email@example.com) to update your contact information in our computer system. Also consider following the La Conner Elementary School Facebook page, if you haven’t already. We want to make sure we can reach families with information as plans unfold throughout the summer.
I wish you a restful and refreshing summer, and I look forward to seeing your faces in the fall! Have a joyful break-
