Welcome back to school, LCE Families!

Braves Day is Tuesday, August 30th, 8:10-11:35 AM

First Class Day is Wednesday, August 31, 8:10-11:35 AM

The structure and purpose of Braves Day has changed this year - we’re thinking of it as a “Soft Start” - but we still want this to be a family event, and we still want every student to get their picture taken. Keep reading to learn more about our plans for you and your children, and for answers to some frequently asked questions.

    Before school

    • Buses will run to and from school for returning students in 1st-5th grade whose caregivers are not available to drive them in.
      • Caregivers who are available are encouraged to come with their students and stay for as long as you can!
    • Caregivers of Kindergarteners and new-to-La Conner students are encouraged to come with their students to school, and to stay as long as you can!

    • If caregivers cannot stay all morning, students can stay at school and be picked up at 11:35 AM, or they can leave with their caregiver. You do what’s best for your family!

    7:45 AM

    • The playground will be open for students and families to socialize and play

    8:10 AM - Programs begin!

    • Breakfast for students and refreshments for families will be served in the school cafeteria

    8:30 AM - All-School Welcome Assembly

    • While everyone is together, we’ll take a minute to celebrate the start of a new school year!

8:50 AM - Students and caregivers go to classrooms!

    • Caregivers with more than one child at school can visit each of their students’ rooms
    • Students will stay with their teachers from this time until 11:35 AM

9:10 AM - Caregiver Information Meeting

    • Caregivers return to the gym to learn more detailed information about what to expect this year
    • Students stay with their teachers to begin building their classroom communities
      • School pictures will be taken during this time

9:30 AM - Caregiver free time!

    • Information tables will be set up all around the elementary school loop; learn about clubs, curriculum, transportation, health requirements, PTSA membership, etc.
      • Tables will be open at 8:00 AM for those who need to keep Braves Day brief
    • Complete any unfinished registration pieces, pay for student supplies ($30 per student; families don’t need to provide any supplies except backpacks and lunchboxes)

    11:35 AM - Dismissal

    • Students go back to their caretakers (or ride the bus home, if they came on a bus) with a sack lunch

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When will I learn who my child’s teacher is?

Class lists will be posted on the school doors at 3:00 PM on Friday, August 26th.

What is the first day of school?

Braves Day (Tuesday, August 30) is a “soft start” first day of school, and Wednesday, August 31, is the first day of real classes. Both of these are half-days and dismiss at 11:35 AM.

What are the hours of the school day?

                Half days (August 30 & 31) are 8:10-11:35 AM.

Full days (starting September 1) are 8:10 AM - 2:40 PM.

Is there school on Labor Day, September 5th?

No, that will be a 4-day school week.

What’s the earliest I can bring my child to school?

The earliest students can be brought to school is 7:45 AM, on Braves Day, or any day. We cannot provide student supervision before then.

What if I can’t stay all morning for Braves Day?

Come when you can and stay as long as you can. Information booths and student pictures will be available at 8:00 AM, so if you need to come just for those things and then leave, that’s okay.

What if I have a student in more than one building at Braves Day?

Times for assemblies and information meetings are different at each building so that you have the opportunity to go to both, if you like. You can also just pick and choose according to your preference.

What supplies will my student need on the first day of school?

Students only need to bring their own kid-sized backpack and lunchbox (if they bring lunch from home). For all other school supplies (pencils, paper, markers, binders, etc.) families pay a $30 supply fee, which the school uses to order supplies. This is a big money saver for families!

How do I pay the $30 supply fee for my student’s school supplies?

Payments can be made online through our district website. Look for the “Online Payments” tile on the front page. Payments can also be made in our school office.

What meals does the school provide?

Every student can eat breakfast and lunch at school for free, every day.
