Dear La Conner Parents and Community,

The question of what school looks like in the fall weighs heavily on all our minds right now.  The La Conner School District is working with a diverse committee, which includes parents, students, and staff to develop a plan for the reopening of schools in the fall.  In my short time as your superintendent, I have been communicating with others as quickly as possible regarding their thoughts and concerns.  Of course, our number one priority is the safety and health of our students and staff.

The Skagit County Health department updates all our districts regularly and the current data demonstrates some high risk for our school community.  I had high hopes that students would be coming back to regular, conventional school in the fall and we could resume more of a normal schedule.  That is not going to happen and our committee is looking at two options, the hybrid model with online options or going online only with some possible small group options.  The committee will be meeting twice this week and will develop a recommendation based on our current knowledge of scientific data.  This recommendation will be reviewed by the board and must be approved prior to implementation.  After making their recommendation, the committee will develop a survey to get your further input.  I plan to update you weekly on progress and potential changes as we move through the school year.  As a parent and grand-parent, I know this is a very challenging time for all of us; all of us at La Conner School District will do our best to support you during this pandemic.

    With Warmest Regards

    Rich Stewart, Superintendent
