La Conner School Garden

  • Hello Everyone,

Well, La Conner School Garden Club Meetings are cancelled through the month of April at least. The currently open Seed Sale Fundraiser is cancelled. It would not be responsible to have garden club members distributing the seeds to people who have ordered through them, at this time of social distancing. I strongly encourage anyone who wants to plant a garden this year to order seeds online. But don't worry, the school garden will not be neglected! I am continuing to plant seeds in the greenhouse and maintain the garden. We will have an honor system Spring Start Plant Sale at the end of May. We are going to offer a variety of herbs, flowers and vegetables. More information in this will follow. Please be healthy and safe.

Feel free to contact me with any questions.

    Sincerely,

    Rachael Sobczak

This year, the La Conner School Garden is taking advantage of a wonderful fundraising opportunity from High Mowing Organic Seeds. They offer a 50% of sales benefit for school gardens. Just talk to a student in the garden club or contact me to place an order. Payment is required at the time of ordering and all orders are due March 24th. A flyer is attached, detailing the available seed packets and collections.

*We are always looking for parent and community participation!

    -  Joining the club is free and open to all elementary school students and their families. A sign-up sheet is attached to this letter, which can be returned to the elementary school office.

    -  During the garden club meetings, members will get the opportunity to eat/cook garden-fresh food and learn about gardening through hands-on activities.

Stop by the garden anytime and see what’s growing. It’s located at the south end of the La Conner Elementary School behind the loading dock.

The 2019-20 school year is the fourth year of coordinating the school garden! The garden is available for classroom involvement and is intended to be used by the whole school community. This is a long term, a school-wide project to engage our students in growing real food. Healthy eating and hands-on outdoor learning can have huge impacts on a child’s health and well-being throughout their lives.
